dc.description.abstract | Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors have an increased usage in clinical practice and safe side effect profile. Hyponatremia is a rare but important and sometimes fatal side effect of SSRIs especially in elderly woman. In this paper, we report hyponatremia associated with escitalopram use in the youngest female patient in the literature so far. The reported case is a 17 year old female patient with Major Depressive Disorder developed acute hyponatremia. In the report we described early diagnosis of her hyponatremia and the connection with her medication. The treatment including cessation of escitalopram and fluid and electrolyte replacement was successful. In conclusion, it is clinically important to be aware of hyponatremia as an important side effect of SSRIs and young patients could also develop hyponatremia. | en_US |
