While technology makes life easier, it has been producing new concepts, which are just alternative ways of demonstrating violence, conflict and bullying. With individuals or groups starting to use information and communication technologies for the purpose of doing harm, the term cyberbullying has been introduced. One of the most effective ways of coping with cyberbullying is to raise awareness among individuals. Cyberbullying includes crimes such as harassment, humiliation, intimidation of a child or adolescent by another person using the Internet and mobile technologies. The aim of this study is to assess the cyberbullying tendencies of high school students. High school students make up the population of the study. The study sample comprises 300 high school students in the City of Edirne.Öğe The study of college students' emotional intelligence qualities(Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Topaloglu, Aysegul OzdemirThe era that we are living in welcomes changes and improvements in many areas replacing the traditional methods and approaches with new ones. This rapid change has redefined the expectations of society from education and educated people (Duman et al., 2014). The aim of education is not only to have individuals who have knowledge but also to have people with emotional intelligence (EQ) with an effective use of it. People who show high levels of emotional intelligence are individuals who knows themselves and their needs, their strengths and weaknesses and manages to control themselves and forms sound relationships (DokanveDemiral, 2007).Among the 190 freshmen studying at Trakya University Kesan Vocational School, randomly chosen 128 students participated in the study and filled Revised Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale consisting of 41 items that can be answered in live point liken scale. The subscales Optimism/Regulating the Mood, Utilizing Emotions and Evaluating Emotions were examined in terms of age, socioeconomic status and the type of scores, social sciences or math/science. SPSS were used to analyse the data. Kruskal Wallis tests and variance analysis were used to identify the difference between groups. The results show that there does not seem lobe any significant difference between the total emotional intelligence scores of the students and their departments, age groups and family income. However; when the sub-dimensions of the scale were examined, a meaningful difference was found between the understanding emotions subdimension and the department that they are studying at. Published by Elsevier Ltd.Öğe The Study of Computer Technology and Information Systems Students' Problematic Internet Use Levels and Predictiveness with the Regard to Various Variables(Elsevier Science Bv, 2015) Topaloglu, Aysegul Ozdemir; Topaloglu, MuratToday, internet has become an important part of daily life for individuals; however, it also presents the individuals with serious problems stemming from wrong use. Unhealthy/problematic use of internet can result in the deterioration in the social, business and family lives of the individuals and controlling the internet use may become a real challenge. This study aims to examine the probable problematic internet use of the Computer Technologies and Information Systems students whose department requires students to use computer and internet applications most compared to others with regard to various demographic data. The study also aims to develop a program to prevent the problematic internet use if the level of problematic internet use should happen to be considerably high. The study was conducted on freshmen, sophomore, junior and seniors studying at Trakya University, Kesan Yusuf Capraz School of Applied Disciplines, Department of Computer Technologies and Information Systems. The study is thought to be a descriptive one and general scanning method will be utilized. Cognitive State on the Internet Scale (CSIS) will be used to determine the problematic internet use of the students with an information form to gather demographic data (gender, age, grade, the frequency of internet use, the availability of the internet access at the current accommodation, the frequency of internet use from mobile phones).
