Yaşlı bireylere yönelik planlanacak e-sağlık eğitimlerinde, kadınların gözetilmesi, internet becerilerinin geliştirilmesi ve bireylerin yüksek kalitedeki kaynaklardan doğru sağlık bilgisine ulaşmasını destekleyecek çalışmaların yapılmasının gerekli ve faydalı olabileceği düşünülmektedir.Öğe Client-centered lifestyle intervention for men with fibromyalgia syndrome: Is efficacy independent of gender?(Wiley, 2023) Salar, Sinem; Bulbul, Ozgur; Alatas, Duygu Mine; Ekici, GamzeAim: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) has a significant impact on daily life, but the fact that most diagnosed individuals are women makes it difficult to understand the occupational needs and lifestyle choices of male patients. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a client-centered lifestyle intervention program in men with fibromyalgia and compare it with women. Methods: The client-centered lifestyle intervention program was applied to 15 men with fibromyalgia in two sessions per week for 4 weeks in individual sessions and compared with data from 15 women who had previously participated in the same program. The Revised Fibromyalgia Questionnaire, the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were used as outcome measures. Results: When comparing results between baseline and 4 weeks later, statistically significant differences were found in the male group in the areas of fibromyalgia severity (p = .001), occupational performance (p = .001), occupational satisfaction (p = .001), anxiety (p = .002), depression (p = .005), and life satisfaction (p = .002). It was found that occupational performance and occupational satisfaction increased significantly more in women than in men (p = .004 and p = .001, respectively). Conclusion: The client-centered lifestyle intervention was shown to be effective in fibromyalgia severity, occupational performance, occupational satisfaction, anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction of both men and women with FMS. Levels of progress in occupational participation could show gender-based differences. The study suggests that more attention should be paid to psychosocial factors when assessing men's occupational participation and planning appropriate interventions.Öğe Covid-19 ve Ergoterapi: Salgın Hastalıklara Hızlı Cevap Verme ve Hazırlıklı Olma Boyutuyla Bir Gözden Geçirme Çalışması(2020) Salar, Sinem; Akel, Burcu SeminDünya’nın globalleşmesi salgın hastalıkların yayılmasını kolaylaştırırken toplum sağlığını korumada da birlik içinde olmayı öğretmektedir. Theprocess of retirement planning, which gains importance in conjunction with gradually aging of societies, could beaffected by many personal and environmental factors. In this study, it was aimed to investigate whether ageistattitudes in the middle aged affect the retirement planning process.Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted with workers in Turkey. Forty-five women(54.9%) and 37 men (45.1%) with a mean age of 46.03 ± 6.00 years (Min. 40- Max. 62) participated in the study.“The Process of Retirement Planning Scale” and “The Ageism Attitude Scale” were used as outcome measures. Results: The results indicated that the individuals who have ageist attitudes had more planning their postretirement lifestyle, psychosocial process and health (p<.05). Retirement planning behavior varied according toworking duration, education level and income level (p<.05).Conclusion: Ageist attitudes in the middle aged, even though seems to be one of the motivational sources ofretirement planning behavior, might affect negatively to feasible and optimal planning, and post-retirementadaptation. Professionals delivering pre-retirement training might need to identify ageism and to plan appropriateprograms.Öğe The effectiveness of a client-centered lifestyle intervention in women with fibromyalgia syndrome: A quasi-experimental controlled study(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022) Salar, Sinem; Ilhan, Elif; Bulbul, Ozgur; Ekici, GamzeIn this study, the authors aimed to investigate the effects of a client-centered lifestyle intervention for women with fibromyalgia syndrome on the levels of disease severity, occupational participation, anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction. The quasi-experimental controlled study was conducted at Occupational Therapy Department of Hacettepe University in Turkey between January 2018 and May 2018. Based on the literature review and basic assessments, a lifestyle intervention program was designed focusing both on the participants' occupational goals and the effects of fibromyalgia symptoms. The results were measured using the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR), The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Significant differences were found in intervention group compared to control in terms of COPM-Performance (p= .001), COPM-Satisfaction (p= .001), HADS-Anxiety (p= .009), and HADS-Depression (p= .001). Although FIQR and SWLS levels improved positively in the intervention group (respectively;p= .001 andp=.012), there was no difference between the groups. According to these results, the client-centered and occupation-based lifestyle intervention applied to individuals with fibromyalgia could be effective on occupational participation and psychological symptoms.Öğe The Effectiveness of Model of Human Occupation-Based Occupational Therapy Intervention for Women who Experienced Domestic Violence(2023) Salar, Sinem; Kayıhan, HülyaExperiences of violence negatively affect women's independence and daily activities. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the "Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)"-based occupational therapy intervention on the occupational competence and occupational participation of women affected by domestic violence and living in a women's shelter. Material and Methods: The MOHO-based occupational therapy program, which includes 10 intervention areas, was applied to 13 women in two women’s shelters. Four-week (16 sessions) individual and group training and environmental interventions were provided. Participants' occupational competence was assessed with the “Occupational Self-Assessment” and occupational participation with the “Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool”. Assessments were conducted before the intervention, after the intervention, and at the 3-month follow-up. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in occupational competence (p=0.002) and occupational participation (p=0.004) between pre-intervention and 3-month follow-up assessments. Improvements were noted in all domains (OSA-competence, and volution, habituation, communication-interaction, process skills, and environment parameters of MOHOST) (p<0.05), except for the domains of OSA-value and MOHOST-motor skills (p>0.05). Conclusion: MOHO-based occupational therapy interventions delivered in women's shelters could have a positive impact on the occupational competence and occupational participation of women experiencing violence.Öğe Investigation of the relationship between kinesiophobia and sensory processing in fibromyalgia patients(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020) Inal, Ozgu; Aras, Berke; Salar, SinemPurpose/aim: The aims of this study are to investigate the relationship between kinesiophobia and sensory processing in fibromyalgia (FM) patients and obtain new information about kinesiophobia in light of these results. Materials and methods: This study has been conducted with 82 literate subjects aged 18-65 years and diagnosed with FM based on ACR 2010 diagnostic criteria. Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire was used for measuring functional status in FM patients, The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia was used for determine the levels of kinesiophobia and Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile was used for determine the characteristics of sensory process patterns of the individuals. Results: Among the participants, sensory sensitivity scores of 65.85% and sensation avoiding scores of 40.24% were higher than that in the general population. Sensation seeking scores of 48.78% the subjects were lower compared to the general population. A significant and weak positive correlation was found between the kinesiophobia scores and responses of sensory sensitivity and sensation avoiding (r = 0.23, p = 0.04; z = 0.29, p = 0.01) Conclusion: This is the first study conducted to investigate the relationship between kinesiophobia and sensory processing in fibromyalgia patients. However, different studies investigating this subject are warranted in order to be able to generalize the findings and increase the value of evidence.Öğe Time-use, occupational balance, and temporal life satisfaction of university students in Turkey during isolation period of COVID-19(Taylor & Francis Australia, 2022) Salar, Sinem; Pekcetin, Serkan; Gunal, Ayla; Akel, Burcu SeminPeople all over the world have needed to adapt to social distancing, movement restrictions, and change in life routines due to Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). This study aimed to explore the relationships between time-use, occupational balance, and temporal life satisfaction of university students in Turkey during the social isolation period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study was conducted online in May 2020, with 128 university students of a Turkish university with the mean age of 20.27 +/- 1.49 years (Min. 18 - Max. 26 years old) from 37 cities. The measures used were the Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ), the Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale (TSWLS), and a customized question about the time-use of the students in specific occupational domains. The results indicated that individuals with lower occupational balance had less present life satisfaction (p < .001). While the time allocated to study lessons, socialization, and exercise had small positive correlations with OBQ (p <.01), watching TV had a negative correlation with OBQ (p <.05) and with 'present TSWLS' (p <.01). The mean value of 'present TSWLS' (15.45 +/- 7.54) was lower than 'past TSWLS' (21.57 +/- 6.27) and 'future TSWLS' (22.64 +/- 4.60). Evaluation of occupational balance and the time use patterns of university students during the isolation periods could be important due to its relationship with life satisfaction. This issue raises the potential need for preventive occupation-based interventions to address the mental health of the community.Öğe Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Serbest Zaman Fiziksel Aktivite Kısıtlayıcıları İle Yaşamın Anlamı Arasındaki İlişki(2020) Salar, Sinem; İnal, ÖzgüAmaç: Bu çalışma üniversite öğrencilerinde serbest zaman fiziksel aktivite kısıtlayıcıları ile yaşamın anlamı arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amacıyla planlandı. Ayrıca serbest zaman fiziksel aktivite katılımının arttırılmasına yönelik programlar geliştirilirken; yapısal engeller kadar, irade gibi kişisel faktörler de dikkate alınmalıdır.Öğe Validity of the Turkish Occupational Self Assessment for Elderly Individuals(Sage Publications Inc, 2018) Pekcetin, Serkan; Salar, Sinem; Inal, Ozgu; Kayihan, HulyaOccupational therapy practices in Turkey are increasing each year, but rehabilitation practitioners working in the occupational therapy field have limited instruments. The aim of this study was to analyze the validity of the Turkish version of the Occupational Self Assessment (OSA), which is based on the Model of Human Occupation. The data were analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses to determine construct validity. The Turkish OSA was administered with the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Old (WHOQOL-OLD) and the Functional Autonomy Measurement System (SMAF) to 117 elderly individuals to determine convergent validity. The Turkish OSA has acceptable construct validity scores (exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses). SMAF and WHOQOL-OLD Scales showed a moderately significant relationship with OSA competence total scores (p < .01). The results indicate that the OSA is a valid instrument for determining occupational competence and values in elderly Turkish individuals.
