Öğe Assessing drought tolerance in field-grown sunflower hybrids by chlorophyll fluorescence kinetics(Soc Botanica Sao Paulo, 2019) Cicek, Nuran; Pekcan, Veli; Arslan, Ozlem; Erdal, Sekure Culha; Nalcaiyi, Ayse Suna Balkan; Cil, Ayse Nuran; Sahin, VakasDrought is one of the most damaging abiotic stress factors commonly experienced by plants, resulting in a significant loss of crop yield worldwide. The aim of the study was to assess drought tolerance of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) hybrids and find out potentially underlying photobiological traits. Experiment was conducted in the agricultural field of Eastern Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute in Adana. To evaluate the drought tolerance of twenty-six sunflower hybrids polyphasic chlorophyll fluorescence measurements were performed at the three growth stages named as vegetative, head formation and milky seed (stress 1, S1; stress 2, S2; stress 3, S3, respectively). The hybrids were classified from drought tolerant to drought sensitive based on their drought factor index (DFI) values calculated from photosynthetic performance index. 9444 A X 9947 R and 9444 A X 8129 R were determined as the most tolerant hybrids, whereas 2453 A X 8129 R and 7751 A X TT 135 R were determined as the most sensitive hybrids. Severe drought stress (S2) inhibited severely both the donor and the acceptor sides of photosystem II in sensitive hybrids. Photosynthetic structures of drought-tolerant hybrids were less damaged by drought stress, consequently these hybrids could maintain their photosynthetic performances (minor changes in phi(Po), psi(o), delta(Ro), specific and/or phenomenological energy fluxes) approximately control levels under severe drought condition. As a result, results, 9444 A X 9947 R and 9444 A X 8129 R hybrids could be recommended to be used in the breeding programs and further studies as genetic material and to be grown in drought-prone areas.Öğe Bor gübrelemesinin Trakya yöresinde ayçiçeği verimi üzerine etkisi(2016) Kurşun, İlker; Gürbüz, Muhammet Ali; Günay, Emine; Kaya, Yalçın; Evci, Göksel; Süzer, Sami; Pekcan, VeliTrakya yöresinde ayçiçeği tarımı yapılan alanların tamamını temsil edecek biçimde Büyük Toprak Grubu haritalarına göre toplam 409 noktadan koordinatlar CBS (Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemi) ile belirlenmek üzere toprak ve yaprak örnekleri alınmıştır.Alınan toprak örnekleri analize tabii tutulduğunda; Edirne ili ayçiçeği ekiliş alanlarının %23'ü, Kırklareli ilinin %22'si, Tekirdağ ilinin %7'si, İstanbul ilinin Trakya bölümünde yer alan toprakların %5'i ve yine Çanakkale ilinin Trakya bölümünde yer alan toprakların %8'inde bor seviyesinin 0,5 mg/kg seviyesinin altında olduğu saptanmıştır. Tüm Trakya yöresi ayçiçeği ekiliş alanlarının %16'sı bor bakımından olukça fakirdir.2013 ve 2014 yılında kurulan tarla denemelerinde topraktan ve yapraktan bor uygulamaları sonucu hem toprakların hem de yaprakların bor kapsamlarında istatistiki anlamda önemli artışlar olmuştur. 2013 yılı ve 2014 yılında kurulan toplam 18 tarla denemesinin 16'sından verim sonuçları alınmıştır. Yapılan varyans analiz sonuçlarına göre 9 denemenin sonucu %99, 4 denemenin sonucu ise %95 önem seviyesinde önemli bulunmuştur. 3 deneme ise istatistiki anlamda önemsizdir. 2012-2014 yılları arasına Trakya yöresi ayçiçeği ekiliş alanlarında bor uygulaması yapılmış tarla denemelerinden elde edilen sonuçlara göre %10-%20 arasında değişen verim artışları sağlanmıştır. Higher oleic acid also affects from environment especially nigh temperatures during the grain filling period but genetic contribution is also important. High oleic acid content comes from Pervenent mutation in sunflower and it controlling Ol genes. However, because of being a seed trait which is determining after harvest, it is so difficult and unnecessary works (waiting even low oleic ones until seed treshing, etc) to select high oleic sunflower genetic materials. Therefore, selection utilization of molecular markers for determining of higher oleic types help breeders a lot to select accurately high oleic ones and also reduce costs both workers, isolation material, etc. The study covers determining of higher oleic type sunflower genetic materials developed in National Sunflower Hybrid Breeding Project conducted by Trakya Agricultural Research Institute. To screen of high oleic acid genotypes, around 400 sunflower F2 and F3 individuals obtained from crosses between high oleic acid and low oleic acid lines were used in TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) Project 1003-114O971. Fatty acids of sunflower genotypes were determined by Agilent 6850 Gas Chromatography in Trakya University Lab. Based on the study results, oleic acid contents of sunflower genotypes were changed between 21.9-91.8 %, linoleic acid contents of them between 1.1-66.5 %, palmitic acid contents of them were between 3.4-8.0 % and stearic acid contents of genotypes were changed between 1.1-9.7 %. The higher oleic types were selected based on the study results for further generations.Öğe EDİRNE KOŞULLARINDA DESTEKLEME SULAMANIN AYÇİÇEĞİNİN SU KULLANIMI ve VERİMİNE ETKİLERİ(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2005) Pekcan, Veli; Erdem, TolgaBu çalışmada, Edirne koşullarında Trakya Tarımsal Araştırma Enstitüsü tarafından tescili ettirilmiş TR-3080 ve TR-6149 ayçiçeği (Helianthus annuus L.) çeşitlerine karık sulama yöntemi ile uygulanacak tek bir sulamanın (destekleme sulama) verim ve verim öğelerine etkisi araştırılmıştır. OF MALE INBRED LINES OF SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.) FOR RESISTANCE TO DROUGHT VIA CHLOROPHYLL FLUORESCENCE(Soc Field Crop Sci, 2016) Kaya, Yalcin; Balkan Nalcaiyi, A. Suna; Culha Erdal, Sekure; Arslan, Ozlem; Cicek, Nuran; Pekcan, Veli; Yilmaz, M. IbrahimSunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) suffers from terminal drought accompanying with high temperature stress since it grows mainly in rain fed areas. Therefore, plant breeders try to improve more drought tolerant varieties and to screen their genetic materials for drought resistance. The present study was conducted to determine drought tolerance levels of sunflower male inbred lines developed by Trakya Agricultural Research Institute (TART), Edirne, Turkey. Inbred lines grown under controlled environmental conditions were sorted by polyphasic chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements. Drought stress applications were performed at three sunflower growth stages as R-3 (vegetative), R5-1 (head formation) and R-6 (milky seed). Based on applied different JIP-Test (analysis of O-J-I-P fluorescence transient) parameters such as Drought Factor index (-DFI) and Damage index (-DI), 70352 R, 8129 R, 0536 R and 9947 R restorer lines were found more drought tolerant than those of the other examined sunflower inbred lines, whereas TT 317 R and TT 199 R were determined as more drought sensitive than others. The drought tolerant inbred lines will be helpful to improve drought resistance in sunflower breeding programs.Öğe FARKLI ÇEVRE KOŞULLARINDA AYÇİÇEĞİNDE (Helianthus annuus L.) TANE VERİMİ VE DİĞER VERİM ÖĞELERİ ARASINDA İLİŞKİLERİN BELİRLENMESİ(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2006) Kaya, Yalçın; Evci, Göksel; Durak, Sezgin; Pekcan, Veli; Gücer, TahirAraştırmada ayçiçeğinde (Helianthus annuus L.) tane verimi ile verimin oluşumunda etkili diğer verim öğeleri arasında ilişkileri 5 yıllık bir periyotta, ayçiçeğinin en fazla ekildiği Trakya Bölgesinde iki farklı lokasyonda inceleyerek etkileşimlerini ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla regresyon ve korelasyon analizi yapılmıştır. En yüksek belirleme katsayısının görüldüğü bitki boyu – verim ve tabla çapı ilişkisindeki Edirne lokasyonundaki lineer pozitif artış, Kırklareli de 165 cm den sonra, tabla çapında da 20 cm de duraklamış olup, tane verimi – kabuk oranı ilişkisi de lokasyonlar arası uyumsuzluk göstermiştir.Öğe Oil content determination on sunflower seeds in drought conditions(Wiley-Hindawi, 2022) Pekcan, Veli; Yilmaz, M. Ibrahim; Evci, Goksel; Cil, Ayse Nuran; Sahin, Vakas; Gunduz, Oguz; Koc, HasanSunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is one of the most important oil crops in the world and mostly produces oil. Due to the global warming and unexpected climatic changes especially extreme heat and droughts in recent years, as a spring crop sunflower affects severely by these climatic conditions in the vegetation period and loses seed yield hardly. Plant breeding longer process taking at least ten years to develop cultivars. Therefore, sunflower breeders should consider future climatic conditions, hence it seems that drought tolerance should consider primarily in their breeding programs. Oil content is the most important trait in sunflower than the major goal in the breeding studies; likewise, it is the most affected yield trait in sunflower from drought conditions. The study was conducted to determine the oil contents from drought some inbred lines and their hybrids developed lately in National Sunflower Project conducting by Trakya Agriculture Research Institute (TARI). Based on the study results; the significant relationships were observed between oil content and other yield traits in drought conditions. Oil content of male lines exhibited more variability than female lines changed as 13.16%-54.05% male lines and 19.12%-52.46% in female lines, and 30.17%-53.68% in the hybrids. While oil content of inbred lines affected negatively mostly from thousand seed weight and head diameter, leaf number, leaf area, and seed yield followed this trait, respectively. Based on path analysis for the contribution of yield traits on determining of oil content; it determined that seed and oil yield were the most directly affected traits then followed by oil yield in sunflower inbred lines in a negative way, and other yield traits mostly affected oil content determination in drought stress conditions over these two traits. The seed and oil yield, leaf area, and thousand seed weight reduced about over 90% in the drought in inbred lines. Severe droughts resulted heavy decreases in sunflower oil content as well as in the seed and oil yield and other yield traits so no need to focus on increasing oil contents over 40%-43% and it should be sacrified from this trait in that kind of conditions. The sunflower hybrid evaluations in three different locations mentioned that thousand seed weight, seed yield, and leaf area as well as leaf number are the most important yield traits affecting positively of oil content determination in drought stress conditions. Practical applications Sunflower is commonly influenced by the environmental conditions, such as hot temperatures and drought as being a spring growing crop. These environmental stresses mostly appear during mid-summer then sunflower suffers from these stressess resulting of seed and oil yield losses with lower oil content. Especially the stress in the grain filling period results in lower oil content in the sunflower growing season. The study results mentioned that sunflower breeders should consider more male inbred lines to develop better oil content hybrids for drought stress. Furthermore, thousand seed weight is also the most important seed characteristics other than seed and oil yield for consisting of oil content in sunflower. Therefore, we have to focus on developing higher seed yield instead of higher oil content because sunflower sacrifice from seed yield to give higher oil content over 40%-43% during the stress conditions.Öğe Trakya Bölgesinde Ayçiçeği Öncesinde Ön Bitki Tarımının Ayçiçeği Verimine, Uygulanacak Azot Dozuna ve Toprakta Tutulan Su Miktarına Etkisi(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2006) Evci, Göksel; Kaya, Yalçın; Pekcan, Veli; Durak, Sezgin; Kahraman, TurhanTrakya koşullarında, buğday hasadından sonra ayçiçeği ekilinceye kadar olan ara dönemde toprakta yeşil örtü oluşturularak erozyonun önlenmesi ve ot üretilmesi amacıyla, Macar fiği (Vicia pannonica L.) yetiştirilmiştir.
