Öğe Determination of Surgical Nurses' Compliance with Isolation Precautions(Karger, 2023) Isikli, Ayse Gokce; Findik, Ummu YildizIntroduction: Patients are impacted by healthcare-associated infections. The aim of the study is to determine the compliance status of surgical nurses to isolation precautions. Methods: This research is a descriptive and cross-sectional research. The research was carried out between July and September 2022 in two training and research hospitals, with the participation of 215 surgical nurses. Face-to-face interviews were used to collect the research data using the Nurse Information Form and the scale. Results: The mean score of the Scale of Compliance with Isolation Precautions was determined as 53.38 & PLUSMN; 4.45 over 18-90 points. Upon comparing the total mean scores of surgical nurses on the scale by gender, the compliance of female surgical nurses with isolation precautions was found to be higher compared to male surgical nurses (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The compliance of the surgical nurses participating in the study with isolation precautions was determined to be moderate. The compliance of surgical nurses with isolation precautions should be increased.Öğe Determining the Effectiveness of Forced-Air Warming Blankets in Maintaining Postoperative Body Temperature: A Randomized Controlled Trial(Elsevier Science Inc, 2022) Isikli, Ayse Gokce; Findik, Ummu YildizPurpose: The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of forced-air warming blankets in normalizing body temperature in the postoperative period. Design: Randomized controlled trial Methods: The study sample consisted of patients (N = 67) who underwent lung lobectomy in the Thoracic Surgery Service of a university hospital. Forced-air warming blankets were used in the treatment group and 100% cotton blankets were used in the control group. Patients' body temperatures were monitored using a tympanic thermometer until it reached 37 degrees C. Findings: The body temperature of the patients in the treatment group reached 37 degrees C in a shorter time than that of the patients in the control group (52.27 +/- 29.79 min and 139.0 +/- 81.93 min, respectively; P < .001), and that the perception of comfort of the patients in the treatment and control groups increased (P < .001) after warming. Conclusions: We recommend that forced-air warming blankets are used for patients undergoing lung lobectomy in order to reach normal body temperature in a shorter time. It is used as a supportive treatment to reduce the pain levels and complication risks of the patients. Methods: Patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of rib fractures in the Thoracic Surgery Service of a university hospital were retrospectively scanned in an online computer program between October 2018 and October 2021. The study sample consisted of patients with the treatment (30) and control (30) groups. Results: Visual Analog Scale and incidence of atelectasis of the patients in the experimental group (The Chrisofix (R) Chest Orthosis) is statistically significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.05). In both the experimental and control groups, no statistically significant difference was found between the variables of patient's demographic and clinical characteristics (p > 0.05). Conclusions: In the study, with the use of The Chrisofix (R) Chest Orthosis, a significant decrease was observed in the Visual Analog Scale and the incidence of atelectasis.Öğe Investigation of the problems experienced by perioperative nurses due to the use of personal protective equipment and their attitudes towards caregiving roles(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2022) Soydas, Duygu; Isikli, Ayse Gokce; Ozavci, Kamuran; Sen, HakanAim: This study aims to investigate the problems experienced by perioperative nurses due to the use of personal protective equipment and their attitudes towards caregiving roles. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 175 volunteer nurses working in surgical clinics across Turkey between March-June 2021. Data were collected online with a personal information form, an information form regarding the personal protective equipment usage times of nurses and the problems experienced, and the Attitude Scale for Nurses in Caregiving Roles. Results: It was found that 98.3% of nurses had problems with personal protective equipment (excluding gloves); 97.7% of them had problems with sterile or non-sterile gloves, and 65.7% of them stated that pressure injuries developed due to personal protective equipment. It was determined that the rate of nurses considering leaving the profession today is higher than before the outbreak. The Attitude Scale for Nurses in Caregiving Roles obtained a mean score of 65.83 +/- 9.41. Those who did not intend to leave the nursing profession had higher scale mean scores than those who thought to leave. Conclusion: It was determined that perioperative nurses experienced skin problems due to the use of personal protective equipment and most of them developed pressure injuries, nearly half of them considered leaving the profession during the COVID-19 pandemic, and considering leaving the profession adversely affected their caregiver roles. According to the results of this study, it is recommended that attempts should be made to develop strategies to prevent skin problems and pressure injuries in perioperative nurses.Öğe Psychological evaluation of nurses with and without a diagnosis of COVID-19 resilience, job satisfaction and fear levels evaluation(Kare Publ, 2021) Isikli, Ayse Gokce; Sen, Hakan; Soydas, Duygu[Abstract Not Available]Öğe The relationship between the perception of surgical fear and nursing satisfaction(Sage Publications Ltd, 2023) Soydas, Duygu; Organ, Esra Makal; Findik, Ummu Yildiz; Isikli, Ayse GokceSince patient satisfaction is considered a criterion in the evaluation of nursing care, it is important and necessary to know the factors associated with satisfaction. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between surgical fear and satisfaction with nursing care in surgical patients. This descriptive correlational study was conducted with 110 patients who underwent planned major surgical intervention in a university hospital in Turkey. A patient introduction form, the Surgical Fear Questionnaire and Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale were used to collect data, as well as a face to face interview with patients during the pre and postoperative periods. The results showed that the surgical fear levels of the patients were low, their satisfaction with nursing care was high, and a weak correlation existed between the fear and satisfaction levels. We recommend nursing care interventions aimed at keeping the surgical fear levels of patients low and their satisfaction high.Öğe Retrospective evaluation of the effectiveness of using two different products in preventing the development of pressure injuries in patients undergoing lung lobectomy(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2023) Isikli, Ayse Gokce; Ozkan, Zeynep KizilcikAim: This retrospective study aims to determine the impacts of two different products (barrier cream, barrier spray) routinely used before surgery on the development of postoperative pressure injuries in patients under-going lung lobectomy. Materials and methods: In the study, the researchers retrospectively examined the data of 60 patients who un-derwent lobectomy in a university hospital's thoracic surgery clinic between 12.02.2021 and 14.02.2022. The patients were divided into two groups: those to whom a barrier cream was applied (30) and those to whom a barrier spray was applied. The Patient Description Form and the Braden Risk Assessment Tool were used in data collection. The Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were conducted for statistical analyses. Results: In the study, the development rates of blanchable erythema and stage I pressure injuries in the sacral and dorsal regions were significantly higher in patients to whom a barrier spray was applied than in patients to whom a barrier cream was applied (p < 0.05). Pain intensity in the sacral and dorsal regions was significantly lower in patients to whom a barrier cream was applied than those to whom a barrier spray was applied (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Blanchable erythema and intraoperative pressure injury were observed less in patients in whom a barrier cream was used before surgery. Surgical nurses should first evaluate the risk in the preoperative period in the clinics and benefit from the use of barrier cream to prevent the development of blanchable erythema and intraoperative pressure injury.
