Öğe Acute gastric volvulus due to deficiency of the gastrocolic ligament in a newborn(Springer-Verlag, 2002) Basaran, UN; Inan, M; Ayhan, S; Aydiner, C; Ayvaz, S; Ceylan, T; Pul, NGastric volvulus is rare in the neonatal period. Only three cases of gastric volvulus due to deficiency of gastrocolic ligament have been reported until now in the literature. We describe a neonatal case due to absence of the gastrocolic ligament. Stamm gastrostomy was performed for fixation and there has been no recurrence of his symptoms during a 13-month post-operative period. Conclusion: Stamm gastrostomy is a viable treatment of gastric volvulus due to lack of the gastrocolic ligament.Öğe Congenital fibrous epulis in the infant(Yonsei Univ Coll Medicine, 2002) Inan, M; Yalçin, Ö; Pul, MCongenital fibrous epulis is an extremely rare tumor of infancy. It is a benign gingival tumor and generally seen in maxillary alveolar crest and its etiology remains the subject of debate. Congenital fibrous epulis could be considered a hamartomatous lesion. Histologically it does not show the closely packed large granular cells necessary for the diagnosis of an ordinary congenital epulis. Instead, it consists of irregular bundles of collagenous connective tissue, varying numbers of fusiform cells with oval or fusiform shaped nuclei and mild subepithelial inflammatory infiltration with tiny blood vessels and in this case a woven bone spicule in the deep area. Recommended treatment for this tumor is simple excision. We report upon a case of congenital fibrous epulis in a male infant and discuss the clinical features, histopathologic findings, and surgical treatment.Öğe Detection of tracheoesophageal fistula caused by ingestion of a caustic substance by esophageal scintigraphy(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005) Kaya, M; Inan, M; Bedel, DA 4-year-old boy was referred for scintigraphic evaluation of esophageal transit 24 hours after he had ingested sodium hydroxide. After oral administration of Tc-99m sulfur colloid, scintigraphy showed marked and prolonged retention of the radioactive bolus in the middle and lower thirds of the esophagus. Three weeks after ingestion of the caustic substance, repeat scintigraphy was requested to evaluate esophageal transit and gastric-emptying. In this presentation, a tracheoesophageal fistula was a consequence of sodium hydroxide ingestion and was identified with radionuclide scintigraphy before there was clinical and radiologic detection.Öğe Lipoblastoma: a rare cervical mass in childhood(Elsevier Sci Ireland Ltd, 2001) Basaran, UN; Inan, M; Bilgi, S; Pul, MA 4-year-old girl had a left side cervical swelling for three months. The mass was free from surrounding tissues and excised completely. Histopathologic diagnosis of the specimen was lipoblastoma. Cervical lipoblastoma is a rapidly growing neoplasm. Only two cases of cervical lipoblastomas caused airway obstruction have been reported. Recurrence is rare in cases of lipoblastoma. Complete excision of the tumor is the treatment of choice. Seventeen cases of cervical lipoblastoma have been reported until now in the literature. but we think that lipoblastoma is more frequent than reported. Lipoblastoma must be remembered as a rare cause of cervical masses in childhood. We describe a case of GS diagnosed at 20 weeks' gestation that resolved spontaneously in utero. At delivery the infant had an ileus. A laparotomy with a jejunocolostomy was performed, but she died at 2 months of age due to complications of total parenteral nutrition.Öğe Scintigraphy in the evaluation of esophageal transit in children with caustic esophageal injury(Springer, 2004) Kaya, M; Inan, M; Bedel, D; Ayvaz, S[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Visceral larva migrans presenting as acute abdomen in a child(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2006) Inan, M; Sakru, N; Vatansever, U; Bilgi, SAn unusual presentation of visceral larva migrans observed in a patient is reported. A 5-year-old boy suffering fever, abdominal pain, tenderness, and rigidity in the right lower and tipper quadrant of the abdomen was operated on, with the false diagnosis of acute abdomen, and exploratory surgery was carried out. The pathological examination of the liver biopsy revealed eosinophil-rich necrotizing granulomatous inflammation with Toxocara spp larva. The diagnosis was also confirmed by serologic, results. Clinicians should remember that toxocaral visceral larva migrans may rarely mimic an acute abdomen and cause unnecessary operations. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. This association is called Waugh's syndrome. The authors report 2 cases of Waugh's syndrome and discuss diagnostic features and treatment methods. (C) 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
