Classification of Histopathological Images Using Convolutional Neural Network
(IEEE, 2014) Hatipoglu, Nuh; Bilgin, Gokhan
In this work, classification of cellular structures in the high resolutional histopathological images and the discrimination of cellular and non-cellular structures have been investigated. The cell classification is a very exhaustive and time-consuming process for pathologists in medicine. The development of digital imaging in histopathology has enabled the generation of reasonable and effective solutions to this problem. Morever, the classification of digital data provides easier analysis of cell structures in histopathological data. Convolutional neural network (CNN), constituting the main theme of this study, has been proposed with different spatial window sizes in RGB color spaces. Hence, to improve the accuracies of classification results obtained by supervised learning methods, spatial information must also be considered. So, spatial dependencies of cell and non-cell pixels can be evaluated within different pixel neighborhoods in this study. In the experiments, the CNN performs superior than other pixel classification methods including SVM and k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN). At the end of this paper, several possible directions for future research are also proposed.

The Design Of Renewable And Interactive E-Book Template For E-Learning Environments
(Online Journal Communication & Media Technologies-Ojcmt, 2012) Hatipoglu, Nuh; Tosun, Nilgun
In this study, it is aimed to minimize the labor and time spent during the updating of e-content and re-uploading them into learning management systems, which is one of the present e-learning problems. For this purpose, a new e-book template has been designed. Transferring content into e-book consists of two important steps. Firstly, the contents prepared in MS Word program are transformed into XML. Later, the contents transformed into XML are read by e-book template. EBONI design principles have been highly obeyed during the design of the template. Some of the EBONI design principles used in the e-book template are book cover, contents, short page contents, legible writing format, multimedia and interactive items that may activate users. Thanks to these, an e-learning environment that is visually rich, easy to understand and follow with flexible contents has been attempted to create.

Feature Extraction for Histopathological Images Using Convolutional Neural Network
(IEEE, 2016) Hatipoglu, Nuh; Bilgin, Gokhan
In this study, it is intended to increase the classification accuracy results of histopathalogical images by evaluating spatial relations. As a first step, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based features are extracted in the original RGB color space of digital histopathalogical images. Training data sets are formed by selecting equal number of different cellular and extra-cellular structures in spatial domain from the images. Classification models of each training data set are obtained by utilizing CNN (as a supervised classifier), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF) methods. Visual classification maps and output tables which are obtained from supervised training methods are presented for comparison purpose in the experimental results section.

Internet aided teaching of basic computer skills for the students of science teaching department from the faculty of education in Trakya University
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2009) Tosun, Nilguen; Hatipoglu, Nuh
Beginning to use computers in classrooms and schools shows a great revolution nature in field of training. With the technological developments, classical class environment composed of books, notebooks, blackboards and chalk is replaced by more modern educational environments. Computers, data shows, printers, scanners and educational software formed intelligent classes. In the course of time, Internet became prevalent and began to be used in the schools, this brought in new dimensions in field of training. In a short period of time, concepts such as 'internet-aided education', 'internet based education' took its place in the literature. At the present day, a great many of university including Trakya University, is currently carrying on 'internet-aided education' application. In the first instance, theoretical based courses such as Turkish Language, Revolution History and Foreign Language are teaching as internet-aided courses. These courses are elective and obligatory in different departments in the Universities. In consequence, it needs quorum of instructors and physical environment facility to educate dozens of students on these courses. Internet-aided education, takes important part to supply these needs significantly. Numbers of these courses are on the increase gradually in the Universities. In the length of time some courses which have applications began to be added in numbers of these courses too. In 2007-2008 academic year, courses Computer I and Computer II which are teaching to 38 students at Science Teaching Department of Faculty of Education in Trakya University were presented as internet-aided education. So as to take students' opinion about contents of the courses on the internet environment and methods, a questionnaire which is built up by the writer and written students feedback were used. In the first part of the present study, the concept of internet aided-education is explained. Second part is giving information about internet-aided education performance and preparation stage about contents of the courses on the internet aided education in Trakya University. As for the third part, process of Internet aided teaching of Computer I and Computer II courses, given in Science Teaching Department of Faculty of Education in Trakya University, is explicated. In the fourth part of the study, students' request and ideas about contents of the courses and success rate of 38 students who are trained by internet aided education is explained. As for the conclusion and suggestion parts, evaluations related to application process are expressed.
