Data were collected using the Characteristics of the Nurse and The Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying (FATCOD) scale. Results: 27.2% of the nurses included in the study were working in Oncology clinics, 72.9% of them in Intensive Care Units, and 45.8% of them were working in the clinic they had been in for 1-5 years. The total FATCOD mean score of the nurses was determined to be 80.04 ± 8.80. It was found that the attitudes of nurses who did not think that death is natural, towards the care of the dying individual were significantly higher (p<0.05).Conclusion: It was found that attitudes of nurses who did not consider death to be natural were more positive. Considering these results, it may be suggested to organize trainings on social support, with negative and inadequacy feelings coping methods, and end-of-life care for nurses working in oncology and intensive care units.Öğe The correlation between individuals' attitudes toward cancer screening, cancer information overload, and healthy life awareness: a cross-sectional study(Springer Heidelberg, 2024) Dogan, Melike Demir; Kurt, Seda; Ertin, BerkayAimsThis study was conducted to determine the correlation between individuals' attitudes toward cancer screenings, cancer information overload, and healthy life awareness.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, data were collected from 343 people through face-to-face interviews using the socio-demographic characteristics form, attitude scale for cancer screenings, cancer information overload scale, and healthy life awareness scale.ResultsThe mean age of the participants was 47.79 +/- 11.65 and 61.8% of them were women. Older participants had lower positive attitudes toward cancer screenings and healthy life awareness. Higher education level participants displayed more positive attitudes toward cancer screenings. The higher the level of education and income, the higher the cancer information overload. When their cancer information overload increased, their positive attitudes toward cancer screenings and their healthy life awareness, in turn, decreased. As their healthy life awareness increased, they displayed more positive attitudes toward cancer screening, as well. As the participants' awareness in change, socialization, responsibility, and nutrition subscales of healthy life awareness scale increased, they had more positive attitudes toward cancer screenings.ConclusionConsequently, it was determined that the participants had a high level of positive attitudes toward cancer screenings, a moderate level of cancer information overload, and a high level of healthy life awareness.Öğe Evaluation of symptom control and functional quality of life in Turkish patients with cancer during chemotherapy(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2022) Ertin, Berkay; Kurt, SedaPurpose: This study was designed to evaluate the severity of symptoms, functional quality of life, and related factors experienced by Turkish cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: The study was carried out with 430 patients at a medical oncology clinic. The data were collected using a personal and disease-related characteristics questionnaire, the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) and the Functional Life Scale-Cancer (FLIC).Results: The three symptoms experienced most by patients were nausea (91.2%), depression (89.1%), and anxiety (87.7%). The mean FLIC total score of patients with cancer was 86.26 +/- 23.15. Age, ECOG performance score, pain, nausea, depression, and a decreased sense of well-being independently affected the FLIC score (p < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between ESAS and FLIC scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Nausea and psychological symptoms are common in Turkish patients with cancer. The more severe the symptoms, the worse the functional quality of life. Age, ECOG performance score, pain, nausea, depression, and decreased sense of well-being affect Turkish cancer patients' functional quality of life. We conclude that healthcare professionals should evaluate symptoms experienced by their patients and plan appropriate nursing interventions to address the symptoms experienced by Turkish patients with cancer.Öğe Kanserli hastalarda semptom kontrolü ve fonksiyonel yaşam kalitesinin değerlendirilmesi(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2021) Ertin, Berkay; Kurt, SedaTanımlayıcı ve kesitsel olarak planlanan bu çalışma kemoterapi alan kanserli hastaların yaşadıkları semptomların şiddetini, fonksiyonel yaşam kalitesini ve ilişkili faktörleri değerlendirmek amacıyla planlandı.
