Öğe The Effect of Covid-19 Pandemic on Preschoolers' Mental Health in Turkey(Springer, 2023) Dereli, Fatih; Aykutlu, Hasan Cem; Kurtca, Tugba TurkThe aim of this study is to determine the incidence of mental health problems among preschool-age children in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic and investigate the relationship between these problems and pandemic-related factors, considering that the pandemic has impacted society, institutions, families, and family members differently. The research was designed using a descriptive research model while the sample was determined by the maximum diversity sampling method. The participants included 414 parents, and 207 girls and 207 boys aged between 4 and 7 years. The data were obtained through a Demographic Information Form, The Questionnaire of Experience - Thoughts During the Pandemic, and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. The results showed that preschoolers were at risk of experiencing mental health problems during the pandemic. In particular, children who could not attend distance education and were from families that experienced economic difficulties during the pandemic were more likely to have mental health problems. Furthermore, children whose families an incorrect ideas about the pandemic were more likely to exhibit conduct problems. Gender, home location (urban or rural), and the type of school attended (state or private) had no significant association with the children's mental health. Overall, the study shows that preschool children were at risk of mental health problems during the pandemic. The risk factors that may be particularly relevant were also identified.Öğe Enderun School: Identification and Education of Gifted and Talented Children(Trakya Üniversitesi, 2023) Dereli, FatihEnderun School was a palace educational institution designed for the training of administrative and military staff in the Ottomans. The Enderun School had an important role in the success of the Ottoman Empire. Enderun, a school where especially civil and military administrators were trained, was established to create the necessary manpower resource for the Ottoman central and provincial bureaucracy. Enderun formed the basic education unit where students were taught and raised through the official Ottoman ideology or mentality. In addition, it had an important role in the determination of administrative and political goals and the functioning of the main institutions of the state. Enderun School was an educational institution that served the Ottoman Empire for centuries. The basis of Enderun's success was the process and quality of the education given to the students admitted here, as well as selecting the talents that were needed and with the necessary virtues from a wide candidate base at various levels and stages. When Ottoman educational institutions are examined in terms of educational function, Enderun School is seen as the most critical educational institution for the state tradition as Enderun Schools was mainly constructed for the training of Ottoman senior managers. Enderun School was the most organized and the most developed among the palace schools of the Ottoman period. It had many organizations and regulations of its own. The administrators of this school were people who were directly related to the Sultan. Enderun School had an important role in the history of the education of gifted children, as it selected and educated children with gifted intelligence and qualifications. It is believed that understanding and familiarizing oneself with the educational practices applied in the past can have a positive impact on the education of gifted children today. With this study, the Enderun School will be examined in detail, based on the work -Târih-i Atâ- of Tayyarzade Ata, who was one of the most important sources of the Ottoman period and was also a student of the Enderun School.Öğe Gifted Children and Psychiatric Disorders: Is the Risk Increased Compared With Their Peers?(Sage Publications Inc, 2024) Aykutlu, Hasan Cem; Dereli, Fatih; Turan, Bahadir; Tuerk Kurtca, Tugba; Dursun, Onur BurakThis study examined the prevalence and correlates of psychopathology in gifted children (GC) and explored whether giftedness confers protection or risk for mental health problems. We used a comparative design to analyze a population-based sample of 100 GC and 100 controls matched by age and sex in Turkey. We assessed psychiatric diagnoses with the Development and Well-Being Assessment (DAWBA), a valid diagnostic tool for child and adolescent mental health, and measured resilience and temperament with standardized scales. GC and controls did not differ significantly in the frequency of psychiatric disorders. However, GC showed lower resilience and higher negative reactivity and activity than controls. Negative reactivity was a significant predictor of psychopathology in GC. Sex did not moderate the effects of giftedness on mental health outcomes, resilience, or temperament. Our findings suggest that GC may have increased vulnerability to stress and reduced coping skills. We highlight the need to identify and support GCs who experience mental health problems and face psychological challenges. Our results emphasize the importance of early intervention and prevention to enhance resilience and well-being in this population. Future research should investigate the underlying mechanisms and develop tailored strategies to support the mental health and well-being of GC.Öğe Yaratıcı Düşünmeyi Öğrenme Motivasyonu Ölçeği: Türkçe Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması(2023) Atalay, Arzu; Dereli, FatihBu çalışmanın amacı, 2017 yılında Al-Zu’bi Omar-Fauzee ve Kaur tara-fından okul öncesi dönem çocuklarına yönelik hazırlanmış “Yaratıcı Düşün-meyi Öğrenme Motivasyonu Ölçeği (Motivation to Learn Creative Thinking Scale)”nin Türkçe uyarlaması yapılarak geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasını gerçekleştirmektir.
