    Da Vinci’s foot illustration and its errors

    Leonardo da Vinci is an important philosopher, astronomer, architect, engineer, inventor, mathematician, anatomist, musi-cian, sculptor, writer and painter who lived in the Renaissance period. In addition to his skills in numerous diverse areas ofstudy, he has important contributions to anatomy, cornerstone of medicine. Leonardo da Vinci performed many cadaver dis-sections. His anatomical illustartions are brilliant, despite the limitations of his time. However, a number of errors have beenfound in these illustrations. Here, we interpreted the illustration of da Vinci named “The anatomy of a foot”.

    Do anthropometric characteristics of head and neck affect the craniocorpographic balance measurement?

    Objectives: The present work aimed to study the relationship of some head and neck anthropometric characteristics withthe data obtained from balance analysis.Methods: Thirty healthy male volunteers participated in the study. The measurements obtained at the same time of day(10:00–12:00). Craniocorpography section of the CMS20P-2 (Zebris© Medical GmbH, Isny im Allgäu, Germany) was used formeasurements. The head length, head circumference, head width, neck circumference and neck width and length anterior-posteriordiameter were measured. As the balance values, the longitudinal deviation, lateral sway width, angular deviation, self-spin,longitudinal sway, lateral sway, angle of torticollis were evaluated. The relationships between data were compared statistically.Results: The head length showed moderate correlation with lateral sway width (r=-0.29), self-spin (r=-0.35) and lateral sway(r=0.28). A moderate positive relationship was found between the head length and longitudinal deviation. The correlation wasalso moderate between neck circumference, neck width and longitudinal sway. Neck circumference and neck width valuesshowed a moderate correlation with longitudinal sway (r=0.46 and r=0.36).Conclusion: The results of this showed that there is a moderate correlation between the balance and the head-neck characteristics.

    Sıçanlarda akut ve kronik formaldehit maruziyetinin öğrenme ve bellek üzerine olası etkileri

    Bu çalışmada başlıca anatomistlerin diğer insanların da günlük hayatta sıkça maruz kaldıkları formaldehitin sıçanlarda öğrenme ve bellek üzerine etkilerinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Erkek ve dişi sıçanlardan oluşturulan 8 gruba 7 gün (akut) veya 30 gün süreyle (kronik) intraperitoneal yoldan 10 mg/kg dozunda formaldehid veya serum fizyolojik verildi. Morris Su labirenti, yükseltilmiş artı labirent, korku koşullanma, rotarod aktivitesi ölçümü testleri uygulandıktan sonra ötenazi yapılarak Hippocampuste histolojik inceleme yapıldı. Davranış deneylerinde gruplar arasında istatistiksel anlamlı bir fark saptanmadı. Histolojik kesitler incelendiğinde akut erkek deney gruplarında apoptozis tespit edildi. Akut veya kronik formaldehit maruziyetinin uzaysal öğrenme ve belleği bozmadığı sonucuna varıldı.
