Öğe Synthesis and characterization of a new macrocyclic ligand and its copper (II), cadmium (II), and lead (II) complexes(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2007) Beynek, Nesrin; Ulucam, Gueherguel; Tueylue, Berrin Ayaz; Zeytinoglu, Huelya; Benkli, KadriyeA new macrocyclic ligand 1,1'-bis(bis-(6,6'-oxymethylenyl-2,2'-bipyridine) binaphthyl, (L), and its complexes CuL(ClO4)(2), CuL(NO3)(2,) 3H(2)O, CdL(ClO4)(2), and PbL(ClO4)(2) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, FAB mass, and elemental analyses. Genotoxicity of these metal complexes has also been investigated by cytokinesis- blocked micronucleus assay in cultured human lymphocytes. Blood cultures were set up from two healthy donors, and treatment was done with different test concentrations for 24 and 48 h. The current results indicate that all compounds caused cytotoxicity by decreasing the cell number at the 150 mu g/mL doses for 48-h treatments. On the other hand, CuL(ClO4)(2), CuL(NO3)(2,) 3H(2)O and PbL(ClO4)(2) exhibited genotoxicity by inducing the number of micronucleated cells at doses of 150 mu g/mL for 24-h treatments, but CdL(ClO4)(2) did not significantly alter micronucleus induction. Hence, some test compounds may act as mutagens or produce clastogenic effects depending upon their chemical structures.Öğe Synthesis and Characterization of New Binaphthyl-Linked Phenanthroline-, Bipyridine-, or Pyridine-Derived Ligands, and the Study of Their Cytotoxic Activity(Wiley-V C H Verlag Gmbh, 2008) Beynek, Nesrin; Ulucam, Gueherguel; Benkli, Kadriye; Koparal, Ayse TansuIn the present work, we describe the synthesis and characterization of five new versatile acyclic or macrocyclic ligands containing binaphtyl-linked pyridine, bipyridine, or phenanthroline groups in their framework (see Schemes 1-4). The structures of the ligands were elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses. 1R, (1)H-NMR, (13)C-NMR, and FAB mass spectra. The cytotoxicity of these compounds was tested in vitro by using the tetrazolium salt reduction (MTT) assay on A549 (human lung carcinoma epithelial like) cells. All Of the tested compounds induced time- and concentration-dependent cytotoxic effect.Öğe Synthesis and cytotoxic activities of transition-metal complexes of a binaphthyl-linked bipyridine ligand(Springer, 2009) Beynek, Nesrin; Ulucam, Gueherguel; Benkli, KadriyeA binaphthyl-linked bipyridyl compound, 1,1'-bis(6-methyl-6'-oxymethylenyl-2,2'-bipyridine)binaphthyl, (L) has been synthesised and used as a ligand for the formation of Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) complexes. The ligand and its transition-metal complexes were characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The complexes were also investigated for cytotoxic activity. The cytotoxicity of complexes, CuL(ClO4)(2), NiL(ClO4)(2)(H2O), CoL(ClO4)(2), were tested in vitro applying seven well-characterized human tumor cell lines, MCF7, EVSA-T, WIDR, IGROV, M19 MEL, A498, H226, and the microculture sulforhodamine B (SRB) test.
