The views on the foundations on which the polyphonic Turkish music, which was born with the Republican era, should be constructed, are fundamental problems that still being debated. In this context, the views of the composer, educator and intellectual Muammer Sun, who has delved into Turkish culture through music compilations and participated in the foundation processes of various musical institutions, on this issue are still significant. This study examines the impact of Sun's life, ideas and practices on the institutionalization process of polyphonic Turkish music. Throughout his life, Sun expressed ideas about music, education, and art life on several platforms. However, he was not only as an intellectual but also as a practicioner. The study is divided into two parts. The first part delves into Muammer Sun's life, personal characteristics, and thoughts regarding the polyphonic Turkish music. The second part focuses on the practical dimensions of the composer's views on the polyphonic Turkish music. As an idealist and pragmatist figure, Sun aimed to optimize the utilization of the available resources. By embracing a scientific methodology, he determined the objectives for the institutionalization of the polyphonic Turkish music and he proceeded based on tangible data.
