This study aims to study the effect of lifestyle factors in infertile women over
infertility.
This cross-sectional research was conducted at the Trakya University Hospital
Gynecology Polyclinic and Assisted Reproductive Techniques Center between the dates of
October 2016 and December 2017. The research was conducted over a total of 304 women
who were referred to the hospital, including 152 infertile and 152 fertile women. The data
for the research was collected using an information forms prepared by reviewing the
literature and a Perceived Stress Scale (PSS).
It was found that the BMI values for the infertile (25.1±5.3) and fertile (25.9±5.5)
groups were similar (p=0.171). It was reported that the infertile group consumed more water
(1500 ml and above) than the fertile group (p=0.003) and preferred locally produced eggs
than the fertile group (p=0.027). It was determined that those from the infertile group who
engage in physical activity/exercise/sports (28.6%) engaged in more physical
activity/exercise/sports in the range of 1-2 days per week (p=0.046). It was reported that
the number of women who started drinking alcohol between the ages of 19-25 was greater in
the infertile group (p=0.027). It was found that the infertile group more often (69.7%) used a
computer (p=0.021) and had a greater frequency of computer use throughout the day in the
range of 6-8 hours (p=0.004). It was determined that the rate of developing an infection in
the fallopian tubes for the infertile group was 56.5%, greater than in the fertile group
(p<0.001). It was reported that the mean PSS scores in both the infertile (48.8±6.3) and
fertile (47.4±6.7) groups was at a high level (p=0.062).
It is thought that developing infections in the fallopian tubes and having a higher rate
of drinking alcohol during reproductive age in the infertile women are factors that lead to
infertility. It can be said that using a computer and using a computer excessively throughout
the day could be influential over fertility. Infertile women also prefer healthy lifestyle
choices like exercising, following a natural diet, and drinking enough water to regain their
fertilities.
